No Classes on Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd April
As we approach the end of 2023, I would like to Thank everyone who has supported the Classes and Socials I have run. Unfortunately, we did have to say Farewell to the Wednesday Evening Class formerly at Radcliffe-on-Trent Royal British Legion as it was struggling to maintain good numbers.
On the other hand, we have seen some great successes. Our Beginners Classes on a Monday Evening at Braunstone and Tuesday Evening at Allestree keep growing. This growth has also enhanced the atmosphere within the groups. On a Tuesday Evening, we are hoping to give some of the more eager dancers an opportunity to start moving past the Beginner level onto the Improver stage.
Another class which has come on in leaps and bounds is our Friday Morning Class at West Bridgford. This group started back in the tail end of 2021 when the previous instructor retired. We had around 25 dancers in those early stages. But we can proudly boast that we get more than 40 guests most weeks. Again, new people keen to learn to line dance have helped to make the Beginner session a hive of activity and excitement.
The Socials have also been quite entertaining this year. In September, we had a Party evening at Braunstone. This was a Social evening with a twist which was that we had some Beginner workshops included. This meant that anyone who wanted to give line dance a try, could come along, try a couple of dances and also get an insight to what else could be learnt and enjoyed. Additionally, our Braunstone venue hosted a Classics evening in October. This gave us a chance to head down memory lane to partake in dances which were at least 5 years old. This proved to be a huge success and gave people a really fun evening as it allowed us to enjoy those Blasts From The Past without worrying too much about remembering what we've been recently learning.
Finally, we appear to have a venue which we can now establish some Socials in the Derby region. This is at the Shardlow Village Hall. It is a smaller building, but has so far worked wonderfully. We have sold tickets (mainly to Allestree class members) and even if we have some left over, the venue would feel comfortable. For 2024, the plan is to offer both Beginner/Improver and Intermediate/Advanced Socials at Shardlow, rather than all levels within the one evening. This would mean we can have more guests and therefore welcome more dancers from other groups.
